After 2 years of trying for a baby and a few miscarriages, I started putting on weight very quickly as I was eating more due to stress.
I was blessed with my baby girl in January 2022 and by the end of my pregnancy, I had already put on around an extra 12kg. This didn’t seem much since I was pregnant and I thought as soon I had my baby I would lose it quickly. With the newborn routine and lack of sleep I started to pick eat and it was nothing healthy. I also started drinking fizzy drinks since I had completely cut alcohol during the pregnancies. I thought my weight wouldn’t bother me at the time since I had this beautiful girl to care for. I went through so much to have her, why would I let extra weight make me sad?!

At the time I didn’t realise it was just physical that the extra weight was affecting me. 6 months after having my little one I was nearly 20kg heavier than my normal body weight which always being around 58-60kg and I’m only 5.1 (1.59cm) so for my height it was a lot of extra weight.

Looking at myself in the mirror I wasn’t happy but what was bothering me the most was the lack of energy I had, I didn’t even want to leave the house with my baby girl for a nice stroll at the park, I just didn’t have the energy and I started feeling guilty. I didn’t want to feel like that anymore. Scott is my fiancé and the father of our beautiful daughter Lucy. Scott has always tried to help me with getting back on track with my health and fitness but it’s hard listening to those closet to you. Scott wanted to help so he sent me to train with one of his coaches for training and I had my measurements and nutrition tracked every week. I always skipped breakfast and would starve myself all day and have a bigger meal in the evening.

Following Scott’s nutrition plan and weight lifting with his coach I started feeling much more energized and happy, I was doing so much more with my baby girl who was then turning 12 months old. I felt I was a better mum, a better friend and better partner since I was feeling happier within myself. I also started taking martial arts classes (Jiu-Jitsu) to help with my journey and have since competed in 2 competitions. I have lost over 17 kilos in total and I’m back to my happy weight. My energy levels are so much better but most importantly my mental health is in a happy place. My baby girl is nearly 2 years old now and I have managed to keep my weight in place, I don’t even call it a diet anymore I just see it as a life style now and routine, it’s part of my life. It does help having Scott at home as his nutrition is very good. With Scott and his coaches help, I found a balance in my life. If I have a bad day eating I eat better in the next day, if I have a bad week I try to have a better next week, and so on. I found a happy place between me, exercising and healthy eating. I stopped skipping meals chasing the perfect body shape on Instagram and doing crazy diets that were never sustainable and I realised it was more than just a physical body. I had to change my mental state, you can’t have motivation every day but if you have discipline you can achieve what you want.
